How it works

Four steps from sign-up to a first date that actually happens.

  1. 01

    Verify your license and your face.

    Upload a government ID and a quick selfie — compared by AWS Rekognition's facial similarity model. For clinicians, we then check your NPI and state license. Most profiles clear within 24 hours; borderline cases are reviewed by a person.

  2. 02

    Build a profile that respects the work.

    Photos, prompts, and what kind of relationship you're looking for. Sign in with Apple, Google, or email — your credentials show up as a verified badge, not on the front of your profile.

  3. 03

    Mark your schedule.

    Add the days you're typically on-call, your off-shifts, and the weekends you're free. Synapse uses your schedule to prioritize matches with real overlap — not a 7pm Tuesday you'll never make.

  4. 04

    Match, then meet.

    When there's a mutual signal, you get AI-generated icebreakers to start the conversation, plus venue ideas near a comfortable midpoint and times pulled straight from where your schedules overlap. From there, it's your call.

Verification

Healthcare-grade trust, by default.

The verification flow is the whole point. Here's exactly what we check and how.

  • NPI registry lookup Clinician NPIs are validated against the NPPES public registry maintained by CMS, including taxonomy, license number, and active status.
  • State board license checks Nursing and other professional licenses are cross-referenced with the issuing state's board record. Expired or revoked licenses don't clear.
  • Identity match A government photo ID is compared to a live selfie using AWS Rekognition's facial similarity model. High-confidence matches auto-approve; borderline cases are reviewed by a person.
  • Encrypted at rest, access-controlled IDs and verification selfies are stored encrypted and access-controlled, retained only as long as needed to support your verified status.
  • Profile photos stay separate from ID Your name on the app must match the name on your credential. Your verification selfie and government ID are stored separately and never appear on your profile.
  • Specific feedback on rejection If verification doesn't clear, you'll get a structured reason (clinical credential, identity match, or both) so you know exactly what to re-submit.
  • Roles we verify Physicians, residents, nurses, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, PTs, OTs, therapists, and healthcare students — each by the appropriate credential (NPI, state license, or .edu email).
  • Delete on request You can delete your account from inside the app at any time. We remove your profile, messages, photos, and verification documents within 30 days, save where law requires retention.

A small team, built from inside the system.

Synapse is built by a small team with first-hand experience inside the healthcare system. We watched friends and partners struggle with dating apps that didn't account for 12-hour shifts, rotating call, or the verification gap that lets non-clinicians claim a credential they don't hold.

We're building the dating app we wished existed during residency. Calm, credible, and respectful of time you don't have much of.
